STATE ELECTIONS ENFORCEMENT COMMISSION OFFICIALLY APPROVES
“CLAUDE FOR GREENWICH” CAMPAIGN FINANCING GRANT APPLICATION
(GREENWICH, CT.) Claude Johnson, the Democratic Party candidate for the Connecticut General Assembly seat representing the 151st Assembly District of Greenwich, announced today that his campaign’s application for a Citizen’s Election Program grant of funds was officially approved.
“I want to congratulate the Claude for Greenwich campaign for being approved for the grant application that was heard by the commission yesterday,” said Paige Adams, Elections Officer with the Candidate Services Unit of the State Election Enforcement Commission, in a phone message last Thursday. According to the S.E.E.C., once a campaign is officially approved, grant funds usually appear in the campaign’s bank account the Monday following the approval.
“I’m very pleased, not only that our campaign was able to achieve this milestone so quickly, but also in the way that we did it,” says Johnson. To qualify, the campaign had to exceed $5,000 in total contributions, including at least 150 contributions from Greenwich residents, and contributions had to be more than $5 while no more $100. Resident contributors were from all parts of Greenwich, including 35% collectively from Cos Cob, Riverside, Old Greenwich, and Glenville. In addition, more than half of the contributions were for $20 or less, almost 90% were for $50 or less, and only 12% were for the maximum allowable contribution of $100.
“This means townspeople widely recognize the need for someone new, and they’re eager to show it,” Johnson says. “I’m running because I care about Greenwich, and about Connecticut.”
“Claude is just what we need for the tough challenges ahead: a highly effective communicator and problem solver, who is deeply committed to the next generation, is superior at bringing people together, has a broad and unencumbered worldview, has a wide-ranging set of practical skills, has top-notch academic and professional credentials, and yet honors his own humble background,” says Cos Cob resident Stephen Ng, a volunteer for Johnson’s campaign.
“On November 2, voters will embrace the candidate who is the most competent, has the freshest outlook, and is most representative of the best that our town has to offer,” says Johnson. “That’s the clear choice our campaign provides.”
Johnson, who holds B.S. and M.S. degrees from Carnegie Mellon University and Stanford University respectively, owns a Greenwich-based vintage sports licensing business, which he formed following a 20-year career in corporate America that included management and executive positions at IBM, American Express, NBA Properties, Nike, Phat Farm, and Benetton Sportsystem. A trustee of the Greenwich Public Library, Johnson also helps coach youth football locally. He lives in Greenwich with his wife, Cassandra Tribble, M.D., a staff physician at Greenwich Hospital, and their three boys, who attend public schools here.
